General Description
                            

  • Safety trainers audit the workplace for hazards, develop solutions to eliminate those hazards, communicate the solution to other employees and evaluate progress as the solution is implemented. They also may demonstrate new processes or equipment. Safety trainers may ensure adherence to company health and safety rules and rules set forth by government entities such as the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). They also may be responsible for training documentation.
  • A trainer performs a variety of routine and complex administrative, technical, and professional work in analyzing and administering various components of the environmental, health and safety programs.

Education and Self Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management or related field preferred; or equivalent of five years experience in progressively responsible safety position; or an equivalent combination sufficient to perform essential functions of this position.

  • Maintains knowledge of all applicable OSHA.

Description

The Environmental Coordinator will provide technical assistance to Corporate Environmental staff for the development, implementation and coordination of EH&S Programs and Procedures. Other duties include, but are not limited to, addressing regulatory compliance issues. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Corporate Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials Program  and develop/implement a Corporate Radiation Source Materials Programs
  • Assist business units in developing and complying with source material radiation safety plans, inspections, annual registrations and updates of licensed materials as well as specialized training.
  • Work with Operations and Fleet management to develop corporate guidance for the  transportation  of  hazardous materials and assist operations with DOT hazardous materials compliance
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a corporate waste minimization strategy
  • Work with field operations to determine beneficial reuse opportunities and research new technologies for waste minimization throughout the company
  • Perform field radiation surveys and help ensure field survey instruments are calibrated on an annual basis, assist field with projects involving radiation management and disposal, establish centralized NORM storage yards where needed
  • Assist with applicable training development and implementation
  • Provide technical assistance to Regulatory Affairs staff 
  • Monitor contractor and vendor compliance
  • Work with EHS Compliance management to enhance incident reporting strategy and metrics for environmental reporting
  • Fill role of Corporate Radiation Safety Officer
  • Perform other environmental duties as needed

Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

BASIC PURPOSE: Primarily responsible for ensuring safety-related best practices throughout all of the Love’s family entities.  Responsibilities include; planning, implementing, and directing strategies and programs to ensure a safe and secure working environment. The Manager of Safety is also responsible for developing and monitoring programs designed to promote continuous improvement of health and safety areas of the company’s operations. The Manager will work closely to support, assist, and direct transportation, terminal, rail, retail, environmental, maintenance, and corporate personnel. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for identifying potential risks and various hazards throughout the organization.

• Develop content, provide training and audit support to internal customers regarding mission critical and corporate Health and Safety programs, processes and responsibilities.
• Partner with facility, security and local management to facilitate the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures, and practices. Safety considerations include electrical system requirements, load balancing, power system engineering and performance for mission critical applications.
• Create and update SOPs included in the quality document system, related to EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
• Develop, facilitate, schedule, and coordinate safety training sessions.
• Conduct internal periodic facility audits for power system maintenance, safety procedures and service schedule to ensure compliance with EHS program.
• Coordinate corporate emergency response, fire, spill response plan, and disaster preparedness plans. Provide emergency response materials and equipment as needed.
• Participate in Emergency Response activities to ensure appropriate training, drills, and equipment are available.
• Implement and maintain a facility hazard communication program and ensure all material safety data sheets (MSDS) are available and updated.
• Monitor workplace conditions corporate-wide to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Ensure job safety analysis, ergonomic, noise, and industrial hygiene assessments are completed as needed and make appropriate recommendations.
• Complete and submit new and/or renewal applications for applicable EHS regulatory reporting (environmental permits etc.). Use judgment in data analysis to develop and design solutions to resolve EHS regulatory and technical issues.
• Maintain EHS records, forms, and documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations. Review and post annual OSHA Summary log.

The successful candidate will accomplish the following milestones within their first six (6) to twelve (12) months:

• Complete an initial physical electrical/power assessment of selected mission critical facilities using Marsh’s documented assessment. Submit findings to management within the first three months.
• Redesign Intranet Safety website to include creating and recommending content, programs, highlights, FAQs, etc. within the first three months.

Long-range goals include a comprehensive audit of all mission critical facilities and participation in RFP, selection and implementation of safety tracking software application.

• Up to 25% travel required. Within the first few months, initial visits to major sites will be scheduled.
• This position could be located in Oklahoma City or Annapolis, MD.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position you will need eight (8) or more years of related experience as a safety specialist in a mission critical environment. Extensive knowledge of building and fire codes/regulations including IBC, NFPA, NEC associated with the safe operation of mission critical power systems.

• Experience with 100 percent up-time, high availability, 24x7 operations and reliability issues for HVAC systems and electrical systems, including emergency generators, UPS/batteries, automatic transfer switches, secondary power distribution and other critical electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of engineering, plant operations, methods, techniques, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of data centers, including environment controls, security systems, backup power systems, system monitoring and job automation.
• Capability to ensure compliance to applicable regulations including but not limited to construction permits, safety, environmental compliance, waste disposal.
• Ability to use drawings, specifications, shop math and various measuring and testing instruments.
• PC and desktop applications competency including Microsoft Office, Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, e-mail, etc. Familiarity with Visio and AutoCAD (interpreting and working with construction level AutoCAD drawing sets).
• Ability to physically access all spaces and systems to make quality inspections, including roofs and equipment rooms.
• Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees.

Desired Experience:

• Experience with hangar facilities a plus.
• Significant experience with day to day application of Federal and state laws and OSHA and EPA regulations.

Education & Certification Requirements:

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or Occupational Health and Safety.
• Universal CFC License and / or electrical license. CSP, CIH, CFPS, or CHMM preferred.
