2010 Chapter Star Award

Welcome to the website of the American Society of Safety Engineers Oklahoma City Chapter. We've got an exciting year ahead for 2011-2012, and we hope to see you at our Chapter meetings. February Meeting

Date: Friday, February 10, 2012

Time: The meeting will start at 11 a.m. with lunch. At 11:30 a.m. we will cover some Chapter business, announcements, etc. At approximately 11:45 we will introduce our speaker.

The meeting will be held at Francis Tuttle‘s Reno Campus in Room 2060. Please note that this is a room change.
 
The meeting topic is Ergonomics and will be presented by Teresa C. Williams , CPE, CIEC, LEED AP Manager, WR Sustainability Americas Cushman & Wakefield , provider for Nokia.
 
Teresa’s presentation will focus on incorporating Ergonomics into facility design and understanding the physiology of the aging workforce.  Hi-lites include:
 

  • The principles of ergonomics in facility design
  • How to gain cost savings through building features
  • LEED certification and cost savings
  • Work and lifestyle risk factors that accelerate aging
  • How aging affects cognitive processing and stress tolerance and how those changes impact memory and work performance
  • Why postural tolerances and capacities for material handling and vibration exposure decline with age
  • How to alter behaviors and incorporate proper ergonomics principles to accommodate for aging and improve the aging workforces’ health and productivity

Teresa has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology  from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Oklahoma.
 
Teresa spent six years teaching high school life science courses, serving as the Department Chairperson, organizing curriculum for the district.  Since 1994 Teresa has worked as an environmental occupational health specialist in a variety of industrial of environments.

Oklahoma City Chapter Members Honored at Safety 2010

Oklahoma City Chapter representatives present ASSE Foundation Chair Eddie Greer with a check for $7,100 to fund the new Chapter Scholarship to be awarded in June 2011. ASSE President Elect Terrie Norris presents 2008-2009 Chapter President Mark Huddleston with the prestigous Chapter Stars Award.

ASSE Foundation Scholarships

The ASSE Foundation has more than $100,000 to be awarded to undergraduate and graduate SH&E college students. They also have about $8,000 in Professional Development Grant funds available for ASSE members to improve their SH&E skills. Applications can be found on the ASSE Foundation Web Site. The deadline for these applications is December 1st.
